David and Janice Boan, an Australian couple, live in Perth, the capital city of the state of Western Australia.
For forty-two years together, they have raised five children while combining a strong commitment to the teaching of God’s Word among Christians.
They met in 1965 during their tertiary education years in Melbourne. Jan was at Melbourne University training to be a Secondary School teacher. David, half way through a pharmaceutical chemistry course, switched to theological studies at Ridley College in the University of Melbourne.
In Melbourne, following their marriage in December 1967, David was ordained within the Church of God and began work in the Anglican denomination. They served in two parishes and a School Chaplaincy. On completing a period of training for overseas missionary service together in 1973, they found the health of their children prevented them from taking their missionary work placement. Finding support from a group of young people, they taught the Bible while living in community at the Montrose House, near Lilydale, with Kevin and Val Smith. By 1975, both couples had taken offers to care for congregations in Melbourne. Kevin and Val moved to Hawthorn Baptist; Jan and David to the inner city Anglican parish of St. Jude’s, Carlton for seven years.
Moving to Perth in Western Australia in 1981, they cared for the parish of St Alban’s in Highgate for seven years. A strong feature of their work at that time included establishing Christians from many denominations through Discipleship Schools, aided by teams from Highgate. Much of their teaching penetrated into rural Western Australia by audiocassette.
In 1988, they left the Anglican scene to care for scattered and smaller groups of Christians. David began to travel one week in four, serving house groups and larger fellowships as a visiting Bible teacher. Their home at this time was based in Dianella, a northern, inner suburb of Perth. This work, initially to some of the towns of the South West of Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales, extended into the UK, Italy, and India throughout 1995-2000.
Since 2003 they have been located in Balga, a northwestern suburb of Perth. At this time, all their children are married, and they have fifteen grandchildren. They still continue to teach both at home and in other parts of Australia.
